Phoebe Baker Hyde is the author of the controversial memoir The Beauty Experiment: How I Skipped Lipstick, Ditched Fashion, Faced the World Without Concealer and Learned to Love the Real Me. The New York Times dubbed The Beauty Experiment a 2013 “Book of Style” and Phoebe has shared her observations and insights about beauty craziness and “The Inner Voice” with Katie Couric, The UK Sunday Times, Canada’s National Post and sixteen major world newspapers. Phoebe’s essays on self, place, and culture have appeared in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Salon.com, and The Wall Street Journal and her short fiction has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She holds an M.F.A. from The University of California, Irvine and a dual B.A. in English and Anthropology from UPENN. She currently writes, lectures, and leads workshops around the U.S. and lives in Boston.
